Semi-hydrated gypsum is the main component of gypsum mold. After hydration and hardening, the semi-hydrated gypsum will become dihydrate gypsum, and when it dries, it will produce some holes and become plaster mold with hydroscopicity and some strength. At present the semi-hydrated gypsum used for making gypsum mold can be divided into two types: αtype semi-hydrated gypsum and βtype semi-hydrated gypsum. The latter type has big specific volume, more water consumption for marked thickening, high porosity after gelatinization and low strength. The plaster mold made of this type of semi-hydrated gypsum has the advantages of high water absorption, but low softening coefficient and short service life. The former type has small specific volume, low water consumption for marked thickening and high strength after gelatinization, so that it is commonly known as high strength gypsum. The mold made of this type of semi-hydrated gypsum has high strength and long service life, but low water absorption, long molding time, low production efficiency, big solidification expansion rate, which will influence the dimensional precision and increase the production cost. For this reason, to completely make up for the above-mentioned defects of the semi-hydrated gypsum used for making plaster mold, it is necessary to control it from the gypsum power.
