Gravity separation is a method that separates the minerals according to the difference of the density ratio of the minerals. Flotation separation is a method that separates the materials according to the differences of the physical and chemical property of the mineral surface, and uses the flotation reagents to make the useful minerals selectively stick on the bubbles.

The beneficiation of non-ferrous metals like copper, lead, zinc and molybdenum mainly uses flotation separation method and some ferrous metals, rare metals and non-metallic ores like graphite ore and apatite also uses flotation separation.

Magnetic separation is a method that relies on the principle that different minerals are influenced by different effects in the magnetic field of the magnetic separator. This separation method is mainly used for classifying the ferrous metals like iron, manganese and chromium.

Electric separation is a method that classifies the minerals according to the difference of the electric conductivity of the minerals. When minerals go through the high voltage electric field of the electric separator, since the minerals have different electric conductivity, the electrostatic force on the minerals is different, so that the useful minerals can be separated. This separation method is mainly used for separation of rare metal, non-ferrous metal and non-metallic ore.
